Chocolate For Breakfast

I came across a great book that's out just in time for Valentine's Day. The author is Barbara Passino, a Jersey Gal born and bred. She's now the Chef/Owner of Oak Knoll Inn in Napa Valley. The book is called "Chocolate for Breakfast" and is based on Barbara's life-long love affair with chocolate.

After years of working with investments, Barbara decided to take cooking classes in Venice and then bought what is now a romantic B&B which features her signature chocolate breakfasts.

Chocolate for breakfast? I'm all for it!

Dana Lee Fundraiser

Dana Lee, a teacher in Ocean Township, is now at home taking care of her five year old daughter Tori who was just diagnosed with leukemia. This little girl will have to go through a very long and painful treatment process. Dana, her husband, and their three other daughters are struggling emotionally and financially. The community of Ocean Township has been spreading the word and trying to help this family.

Tori is a patient at the Valerie Center at Monmouth Medical Center. It's excruciating for a mother to have to watch her little girl go through so much pain. Dana is grateful for any help her family can get. The medical bills are piling up and the stress on the family is tremendous.

There is now a non-profit set up entitled Team Tori, accepting donations in the form of checks made out to Team Tori, which can be sent to PO Box 621, Oakhurst, NJ, 07755. Even prayers are much appreciated.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the family has suffered. A few years ago their home burned down. Dana would like to thank her community for rallying with help and support and is looking forward to the day when she can reach out to other families with sick children and pay it forward.

A fundraising event will take place this Saturday afternoon (January 17th, 2009) to help offset Tori's medical costs at Bar Anticipation in Belmar from 1 - 5 pm. Admission is $25 per person which includes buffet, entertainment (Thundercheese!), happy hour priced drinks, a chance auction, and 50/50 raffle. You can purchase tickets at the door. For more information on any of the ways you can help, contact Laurie Olesen at bellhop1965@aol.com or call her at 732-918-8211 at home, or 732-233-4557 on her cell. Laurie and Bob Olesen are running the event and are friends with the Lee's.

Seven Signs Your Guy Is About To Propose:

1. He's growing out of his single-guy ways. His top priority is no longer his friends. He now uses terms like "we" and "our" and his plans for a weekend with the guys are put on the back burner while weekends with you are more common.

2. He's redecorating. You may notice certain items have disappeared from your guy's place (or, if you live together, his personal space). Stuff like his Playboy calendar collection or that ugly brown chair that you hate.

3. He's cutting down on spending. He decides against buying himself that plasma tv. He's cooking more dinners at home and trying to save some money.

4. He's not complaining about weddings anymore. Instead of cracking jokes during wedding ceremonies or whining about having to put on a tux, he's commenting on the couple's choice of food and music.

5. He's taken an interest in your jewelry and maybe trying to figure out your ring size or the type of diamond you like.

6. He wants to spend more time with your parents or introduce your parents to his parents.

7. He's acting out of character. If he's suddenly insistent that you do something you never do, like take a moonlit walk on the beach, it may be so he can pop the question!
